About bakoffice

bakoffice.org is a startup nonprofit organization. In December 2025 it filed for 501(c)3 designation, so at the current time it cannot accept tax-exempt gifts. Our mission is to deliver best-of-class online tools to run the business of nonprofits at no cost to most organizations.

Business Model

We are a nonprofit, so we don't have a business model gimmick. We will donate our time and resource while fundraising to operate bakoffice longer term. What will we not do? We won't have freemium model where we give away a limited-version knowing you'll eventually have to upgrade to a paid version. We won't run ads in the app. We don't have a tip jar. And we won't sell your data.

How can we do this? Building software once and then offering it to thousands of nonprofits actually costs relatively the same as building it for just one nonprofit. So why not leverage the "software as a service" model for good, instead of profit?

Apart from hosting, the one real hard cost we incur are the tools to process text messages and send email. We forecast it will be inexpensive, but each active nonprofit will likely incur about $20 a month in those costs bakoffice will pay to third parties. Until we receive our 501(c)3 determination letter, the founders plan to cover this expense. After that, we plan to offer a "donate what you like" model that still allows nearly all nonprofits to use bakoffice for free, while we fundraise to support the overall mission of bakoffice.
